Danny Rand (Finn Jones via Game of Thrones) is the character to watch for in Defenders. Danny is a wealthy New Yorker that goes to the K’un Lun mountains and gets magical powers. The mountains have their own tales to tell while being real mountains. When Danny returns from the mountains the magic gains him an iron fist. Later, these powers will help Danny defeat bad guys. More importantly, Danny seeks revenge for the death of his superhero father. He is inspired by his late father who seems as if he never died in the first place.
According to Netflix’s YouTube channel, this is a classic superhero mystery where the hero faces a dilemma choosing between saving the legacy of his family or the duties that come with being the Iron Fist. It is definitely something to ponder when long-time enemies arise in the city of New York.
During the 1970s when martial arts movies were rising in popularity, the character of Danny was created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. The adaptation Netflix has in store featuring this character has brought his identity to the forefront. As the production of the movie came together his character wasn’t questioned, but more interest grew about how Danny should be portrayed based on the origin of the character.
In 2014, fans wanted Netflix to cast the character to be played by an Asian-American. Finn Jones may have had good looks, but fans didn’t think he would fit the Asian qualities of Danny. People still wonder how the flick with handle aspects of Orientalism, even though having an Asian American play the role would help with certain aspects to an extent. Fans can get an idea of what to look forward to by viewing the Iron Fist trailer that was released over the summer. It definitely looks exciting!
The Iron Fist film is full of noteworthy cast members and characters including Game of Thrones’ Jessica Henwick, Top of the Lake’s David Wenham, 90210’s Jessica Stroup, Banshee’s Tom Pelphrey, and the character of Jen Hogarth being reprised by Carrie-Anne Moss from Jessica Jones. Practically, everyone is here. In the meantime, fans will ask when can they see The Defenders.
