Predator, directed by John McTiernan, came out in 1987 and could quite possibly be on the list of the best sci-fi action movies of more than thirty years. A sequel, Predator 2, came out in 1990 and added references to the Alien vs. Predator franchise. The third movie, Predators, was directed by Robert Rodriguez in 2010.
These films seem to always leave an impression, and they’re coming back. It appears that this new movie, The Predator, will take us all the way back to the roots of the species. Apparently, we will follow the hunting of a single alien that uses stealth and cloaking to ambush his prey.
The writing is split up between Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) and Fred Dekker (The Monster Squad, Night of the Creeps). Black, by the way, appeared in the first Predator movie as the character Hawkins – the first victim of the alien hunter. The writer also mentioned “doing a little exploring of the existing Predator mythology and expanding upon it,” so we might be in for a real treat!
